Flathead Valley’s Angel Theater is set to host virtuoso pianist Wei Pai and classical French horn player Tsai-Ying Li, alongside Flathead Valley’s own renowned violinist Wai Mizutani for a night of “Masters Performing Masterpieces” on Friday, July 6th and Saturday, July 7th.
Wai Mizutani, born in China, has been living in the Flathead Valley for seven years, where he has shared his passion for music with Flathead Valley Community College students as an adjunct instructor for the past year and a half. Before moving to Northwest Montana, Wai accumulated a lifetime of experience playing with such orchestras as the Hong Kong and New York Philharmonics, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He’s been a soloist for the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Korean Symphony Orchestra, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, and the Manhattan Symphony Orchestra, among many others.
Critically-acclaimed Taiwanese pianist Wei Pai received his training at Gnessin’s Academy of Music in Moscow under some of Russia’s most renowned pianists before receiving his Master's Degree at Northern Illinois University and his Doctoral Degree at the University of Minnesota in Music Performance. Wei won the 2nd prize from the International Mendelssohn Chamber Music Competition in Moscow in 2003, and first place in the Concerto Competition in 2012. He has gone on to perform with the NIU Philharmonic Orchestra in Illinois and has performed in Russia, Germany, Taiwan and the United States.
Tsai-Ying received her Master’s Degree in Music Performance from Northern Illinois University and her Doctoral Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has appeared as a soloist, chamber orchestra performer and won first place in the National Solo Horn Competition in Taiwan in 2007. She has also performed, recorded and conducted extensively with horn choirs, wind ensembles, and orchestras, including at New York’s Carnegie Hall with the UW Wind Ensemble, the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra, University of Wisconsin Madison Horn Choir and with the Wisconsin College and Faculty Brass Ensemble, among others.
Both Wei Pai and Tsai-Ying have taught students in Taiwan and the United States.
Located on the outskirts of Glacier National Park, the Angel Theater is quickly becoming legendary for its fusion of Revival-era aesthetics and today’s technology, giving audiences a timeless and magical experience. Originally built in the early 1940's as a Grange, it was re-opened in 2017 by Catherine and Jack Stephens as a venue for the Arts. The Stephens’ goal is to promote the arts in Northwest Montana by featuring thoughtfully curated music and theatrical performances: from songwriter nights to Gospel choirs, classical music to special presentations of classic movies - both past and present - to Christmas concerts.
Performance dates are Friday & Saturday, July 6 & 7. Tickets are $25 advance online and $35 at the door. The concert begins at 7:30pm with a reception at 6:30pm offering beer, wine and hors d'oeuvres. For more information, visit www.angeltheater.com and www.facebook.com/angeltheatermt/
